Good preparation removes loose risks, records the car’s starting condition and helps the vehicle load as planned. Begin before the agreed pickup window. Tell the transporter early if the car is modified, non-running, electric or difficult to access.
For the booked service and carrier process, use Mahalaxmi Packers & Movers’ car transport service in Madurai, then follow this checklist.
1. Confirm the Pickup Point
A large carrier may not enter every Madurai street, apartment driveway or gated compound. Confirm whether pickup will occur at the address or an agreed meeting point. Check road width, turning space, overhead obstructions, building permission and safe loading space.
Do not wait until the truck arrives. Access can vary even within Anna Nagar, K.K. Nagar, SS Colony, Mattuthavani or Othakadai. Also confirm who will hand over the car and whether it must be driven a short distance to the loading point.
2. Clean and Inspect the Car
Wash or wipe the exterior enough to reveal fine scratches, dents and paint chips. Clean the glass, mirrors, lamps, bumpers and number plates, then let the surface dry. Expensive detailing is unnecessary; visibility is the goal.
Inspect in good light. Look at each panel from different angles and note:
- scratches, chips and dents;
- bumper corners and lower lips;
- glass, lamps and mirrors;
- wheels and tyres;
- loose trim;
- roof, bonnet and boot; and
- existing dashboard warnings.
A pre-existing mark is easy to handle when both sides record it.
3. Take Photographs and Video
Before the car enters the loading area, photograph the front, rear, both sides, four corners, roof, bonnet, boot, bumpers, glass, mirrors, every wheel and each existing mark. Inside, capture the cabin, empty boot, odometer, dashboard and fuel or battery indication.
Add one slow walk-around video. Keep original files; do not rely only on compressed messaging-app copies. Photographs show detail while video shows continuity.
4. Empty the Cabin and Boot
Remove valuables, identity papers, electronics, luggage, household goods, medicines, loose décor, parking cards and unrelated keys. Check the glovebox, console, door pockets and seat-back pockets.
Loose items can shift and damage the interior, and they may not be part of the documented vehicle inventory. Do not use the car as an extra packing box unless listed items are expressly accepted in writing.
Keep original personal and vehicle documents with you unless a documented process says otherwise. Use [Documents Required for Car Transport from Madurai — RC, Insurance, ID & More] for the paperwork set.
5. Remove or Declare Accessories
Remove detachable roof boxes, loose rack attachments, removable antennas, bicycle carriers, magnetic signs and temporary mounts. Close the sunroof, windows, bonnet, boot and doors. Fold mirrors where the manufacturer permits.
If a body kit, splitter, side step, custom wheel or other accessory must remain, photograph it and tell the loading supervisor. Never assume a modification is obvious.
6. Secure Factory Tools and Emergency Equipment
Check the spare-wheel well and storage trays. The spare wheel, jack, toolkit and towing eye can remain in their designed locked positions, but loose tools should not roll inside the boot. Remove or secure portable inflators, fire extinguishers, cleaning bottles and other equipment that could move.
If the charging cable, parcel tray or another removable item will remain, list it on the condition sheet. Do not leave an item merely because it originally came with the car; its current location and securement still matter.
7. Check Basic Operating Condition
The car may need to move for loading and unloading. Check normal tyre pressure, battery start, steering, service brake and parking brake. Note warning lights and inspect underneath for fresh oil, coolant, brake fluid or fuel leaks.
Disclose a flat tyre, leak, weak battery, steering problem or non-running condition. The transporter may need different equipment. Do not hide a fault or attempt a risky last-minute repair.
8. Follow the Carrier’s Fuel Instruction
A full tank is generally unnecessary, while limited positioning still requires fuel. Ask the assigned carrier what level it requires, follow that instruction and photograph the gauge. Never drain fuel using an unsafe method.
Electric and Hybrid Cars
Declare the vehicle type and ask for the required battery level. Confirm how the charging port, cable and electronic parking system will be handled. Remove the portable cable unless it is accepted and recorded. Do not disconnect or work on a high-voltage system yourself.
9. Manage Alarms, Tags and Remote Features
Use the vehicle manual to select an appropriate transport or reduced-sensitivity alarm mode if available. Turn off automatic wipers and explain any immobiliser, hidden switch or remote feature that could prevent handling.
Ask whether the FASTag should remain, be removed or be protected. Remove unrelated parking and residential access tags. Do not disable security in a way that leaves the car unusable.
10. Prepare One Working Key
Provide one tested key unless another requirement is confirmed. Remove house and office keys from the ring, keep the spare, and record the handed-over key on the condition sheet. Test lock, unlock and start functions beforehand.
11. Declare Clearance and Modifications
Tell the transporter about lowered suspension, splitters, long overhangs, air suspension, oversized wheels, custom exhausts or manufacturer loading restrictions. If suspension is adjustable, agree on the loading setting instead of changing it without warning at the ramp.
12. Check the Condition Sheet
Match the transporter’s sheet with your inspection. It should record the registration number, existing marks, odometer, fuel or battery indication, glass and tyre condition, accessories, key count, running condition, date and signatures.
Do not sign a blank or unchecked form. Keep your copy before the car leaves. Confirm the correct destination on the consignment note.
13. Leave a Short Handling Note
If the vehicle has a non-obvious start sequence, keyless-entry issue, electronic parking-brake procedure, air-suspension setting or steering-lock behaviour, write one short note for the supervisor. Demonstrate it during handover when practical.
Keep the note limited to genuine operating information. Do not instruct the loading crew to ignore manufacturer restrictions or improvise a towing method. Share the owner’s and destination receiver’s working phone numbers, and keep your phone available while the handover is being recorded.
14. Stay Safe During Loading
Remain available for identification and paperwork, then follow the loading crew’s safety instructions. Never stand on the ramp, deck or in a carrier blind spot to film. Request a safe loading photograph if needed.

Frequently Asked Questions
Should I wash my car before pickup?
Clean it enough to reveal scratches, dents and paint condition. Full detailing is unnecessary; a visible, dry surface supports inspection.
Can I leave luggage inside?
Remove personal belongings unless identified items are expressly accepted in writing. Loose goods can damage the interior and may fall outside the vehicle record.
How much fuel should I keep?
Follow the assigned carrier’s instruction. The car needs only enough for limited positioning, not a full tank. Never drain fuel unsafely.
How should I prepare an electric car?
Declare it as an EV, ask for the required charge level and clarify the charging cable, port and electronic parking system. Do not work on the high-voltage system.
Should I give both keys?
Usually one tested working key is enough unless another arrangement is confirmed. Keep the spare and record the key handed over.
What photographs are essential?
Capture all sides, corners, roof, bumpers, glass, wheels, existing marks, interior, odometer, dashboard and fuel or battery indication, and retain the originals.
